Richard Bewes was born in a missionary family on the slope of Mount Kenya, attained a degree from Ridley Hall Theological College, Cambridge, and worked in Christian ministry until his retirement in 2004. His ministry in south-east England led to his post as the rector of All Souls Church in London for 21 years.
